This is the final project for the Th.D. student.  While the technical requirements are the same as those for a traditional dissertation, it is fundamentally different in that it is expected to be an “applied theology” position paper written from a praxis position.  For example, a student from a Calvinist persuasion may wish to address the question of how Biblical Harmartiology has shaped the colloquial idea that Christians “sin every day in thought word and deed.”  A student from a Wesleyan persuasion may wish to address the question of how Biblical Pneumatology has shaped the colloquial application of the doctrine of sanctification.  In both cases, the examples, while good starting points, are actually too broad, and would need to be further refined as the “question” is reduced to a manageable thought.  The student’s dissertation committee will assist in the process.  The main point being that the dissertation “question” must have “practical” value, and address an issue that is of interest to the church at large.
